Breaking News!! Bush Doesn't Have A Plan!!!

Overconfidence?  Arrogance? Stupidity?

Who can say?  However, it is clear that the Bush administration has pretty much given up on the idea of governing the country.  From this weeks' US News and World Report:

"They aren't even planning for if they lose," says a GOP insider who informally counsels the West Wing. If Democrats win control of the House, as many analysts expect, Republicans predict that Bush's final two years in office will be marked by multiple congressional investigations and gridlock.

Considering what Bush and his cohorts in congress have done during the last six years, I personally don't see it as a problem that there will be gridlock in congress for the next two years.  No lawmaking is better than what's been going on. Furthermore, congressional investigations and oversight sure beat the old republican rubber stamp.

Having said that, it is still incredible that Bush hasn't stopped to think about what he's going to do in the event that his party loses control of congress.  Hmm, let me think about that...the Bush White House not planning for contingencies...okay, its not incredible.  Its par for the course.  Maybe that should be something the candidates should bring up - "What is the Republican Plan for America?"  Stay the course in Iraq?  Privatize Social Security? (Okay, even Bush gave up on that).  Permanatize tax cuts for the rich?

What exactly does Bush want to do for America?  I think its a fair question.

However, as pointed out by US News and World Report, even if he can figure out what he wants to do, his relations with congress, sucky to begin with, will only get worse:

"The Bush White House has had no relationship with Congress," said a Bush ally. "Beyond the Democrats, wait till they see how the Republicans-the ones that survive-treat them if they lose next month." GOP insiders are upset by Bush's seeming inability to come up with new ideas or fresh approaches."

He's spent.  Lame duck walking.

Anyone shocked?  The electorate voted for perhaps the most incurious candidate ever.  A man who had never been out of the country.  A man who had never had an original idea in his life.  And now here we are.  A man without a plan.  All at a time of ever-increasing problems.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.
